FRISCO, TX At around 7:51 a.m. this morning, Frisco police and fire personnel responded to Twin Falls Drive and Pleasant Valley Lane in response to an 8-year-old child who was struck by a vehicle while walking to school

(March 3, 2010) The Frisco Fire Department offers a great opportunity to learn about an essential part of the city’s public safety operations. The next Citizens Fire Academy (CFA) begins March 25 and demonstrates how these first responders’ jobs go way beyond putting out fires. Firefighters also respond to medical emergencies, contain HAZMAT situations and manage the city’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC), to name a few of the tasks they tackle on any given day.


Frisco Selected as New Host Site for NCAA Division I Football National Championship Game
(February 26, 2010) Frisco is the new host city for the 2010 NCAA Division I Football Championship game, which will played at Pizza Hut Park on January 7, 2011. The NCAA announced earlier today that the 23,500-seat multi-purpose stadium will be the host site for the championship game for the next three years.


Scam Involves Fake 'City of Frisco' Checks
(February 19, 2010) Frisco police are investigating a scam involving counterfeit ‘City of Frisco’ checks. Police report at least two fake ‘City of Frisco’ checks have been received, this week in the mail, by two different recipients living outside Texas. 


Frisco’s Online Ticket Pledge Drive for NCAA Football Ends Monday, Feb. 22
Team Frisco will make its final pitch to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Committee next Thursday, Feb. 25

(February 18, 2010) In advance of Frisco’s final presentation to NCAA officials to possibly serve as host to the next three NCAA Division I Football Championship Games, fans have a last chance to sign up for the city’s online ticket pledge program before it ends on Monday.


Frisco Public Library Honored; Receives Achievement of Excellence Award for Second Consecutive Year
(February 15, 2010) The Frisco Public Library has been awarded the 2009 Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award from the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association. This is the second consecutive year that the library has received the award. This year Frisco joins 26 other institutions, out of 565 public libraries in Texas, to receive the award.


Frisco Public Library Offers Free Child Literacy Classes
(February 5, 2010) Registration is now open for Frisco Public Library’s free workshop series, “Opening Doors to Early Literacy,” with presenter Dr. James L. Thomas. The series is designed for day care providers, teachers and parents or anyone interested in developing early literacy skills in children.


Frisco Public Library to Sponsor Student Poetry Writing Contest
(February 5, 2010) The Frisco Public Library is pleased to announce its annual Student Poetry Contest. Entries will be accepted during the month of March with a deadline of March 31, 2010, at library closing time, 9 p.m. Texas Poet Laureate Alan Birkelbach will judge this year’s entries.


One Person Arrested after Short Standoff
(February 5, 2010) On this date at approximately 2:51 p.m., officers with the Frisco Police Department’s Special Operations Unit (SOU) and negotiators  were activated in response to a possible barricaded person at a residence in the 9300-block of Penton Place.  Patrol officers had originally responded to the location earlier in the day after it was reported by the homeowner that an acquaintance had entered the residence uninvited.  The homeowner stated that the subject was possibly armed.

14TH Annual Daddy Daughter Dances Tomorrow, Feb. 6; Only 600 Tickets Left Between Two Dances
(February 5, 2010) “Don’t be late for this very important date!”  Tomorrow, Saturday, February 6 is the date of the City of Frisco’s 14th annual Daddy Daughter Dance!  Just a little more than 600 tickets are all that remain for tomorrow’s dances, which feature an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ theme.  You can still buy tickets to the 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. dances.  The other two dance times originally offered are ‘sold out’.  The dances are being held in the ballroom of the Frisco Conference Center, located at 7600 John Q. Hammons Dr. (next to the Dr Pepper Arena).


New Alarm Ordinance to be Enforced Starting March 1
(February 4, 2010) Beginning on March 1 the Frisco Police Department will begin to enforce a new city ordinance regulating residential and business alarms.  The Frisco City Council passed the new ordinance near the end of 2009, but enforcement of the new regulations and fees have not yet been enforced as city officials wished to allow both residents and businesses to meet compliance prior to active enforcement by the police department.

The next City Hall 101 class runs from February 15 through May 10, 2010.


Frisco Initiates Online Ticket Pledge Drive for NCAA Football Title Games
City trying to attract the NCAA Division I Championship games following the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons
(January 25, 2010) Officials in Frisco have announced an online ticket pledge initiative for the city’s efforts to attract the NCAA Division I Football Championship games following the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons.  Linking to the website www.collegefootballfrisco.com will give online visitors the opportunity to learn more about Frisco’s effort to serve as host, and also allow them to pledge their ticket interest should the event be played at the 23,000-seat multi-purpose Pizza Hut Park.


First Town Hall Meeting of 2010 Happens Monday, January 25
(January 22, 2010) Frisco residents are invited to come out for the year’s first Town Hall Meeting Monday night, January 25 to learn what’s in the works for the city. The meeting will be held in the City Hall council chambers of the George A. Purefoy Municipal Center, 6101 Frisco Square Blvd. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and wraps up at 9 p.m. Residents who attend the Town Hall meeting will receive a free ‘Frisco’ green grocery tote in honor of the launch of the city’s new ‘green living’ Web site.


Children Reunited with Father
(January 21, 2010) Two young girls who went missing after their mother took them from their father’s custody last November were reunited with their father this past weekend.  Forty-three-year-old Leslie Anne Hurt turned herself into special agents with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) this past Saturday, and was then transferred to Frisco police’s custody shortly thereafter.

Council Approves Rate Increases for Water, Sewer and Trash Services 
(January 20, 2010) The Frisco City Council has approved rate increases for water, sewer and trash services. Fees for ambulance service, fire permits, HAZMAT ‘cleanup’ and returned checks will also increase beginning February 1.  


Phone Service Restored to Panther Creek Estates
(January 10, 2010) AT & T reports all customers in Frisco’s Panther Creek Estates neighborhood should have phone service. 

“As of approximately 2 p.m. CT this afternoon (Sunday, Jan. 10), full service has been restored to customers in Frisco.All customers should be back in service, however, if for any reason a customer is still experiencing a service issue, please call AT&T Customer Care using the number listed on your phone bill, or 1-800-246-8464, to report the issue.” -- -- Sarah Andreani, Fleishman-Hillard for AT&T.

14th Annual Daddy Daughter Dance Happens Saturday, February 6 with 'Alice in Wonderland' Theme; Ticket Sales Begin Saturday, January 9
(January 7, 2010)  Don’t be late for this very important date! The City of Frisco’s 14th Annual Daddy Daughter Dance will have daddies and their little girls dancing into the pages of a classic children’s story.  ‘Alice in Wonderland’ is the theme of this year’s dance, which happens Saturday, February 6.   Join Alice, the Mad Hatter, TweedleDee and TweedleDum and many other characters for one of four dance times offered this year in the ballroom of the Frisco Conference Center, located at 7600 John Q. Hammons Dr. (next to the Dr Pepper Arena).


Third Fatality Reported as a Result of Christmas Eve Traffic Collision
(December 25, 2009) Patricia Wilbourn, the 66-year-old driver of a vehicle that lost control on US 380 at 4:35 p.m. yesterday afternoon and collided with two other vehicles, was pronounced dead earlier this morning as a result of injuries she sustained in the traffic collision.  Also killed in the collision were Wilbourn’s passengers, 62-year-old Richard Wilbourn of Cedar Hill, TX, and 92-year-old Catherine Nelson of Kemp, TX.

DWI No Refusal Weekends Extended

(December 4, 2009) Join the City of Frisco as we kick-off the holiday season Saturday, December 5, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the 19th Annual Merry Main Street located in Simpson Plaza at Frisco Square (intersection of Frisco Square Boulevard and Coleman Boulevard). The Frisco tradition features the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony beginning at 6 p.m. Admission to the event is free, but some activities, as well as food and drinks, require a fee.


Frisco Named Finalist City for NCAA Football Title Game Bids

FRISCO, Texas – The NCAA notified Frisco officials Monday afternoon that the city is a finalist to possibly play host to the NCAA Division I Football Championship games following the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons. 


Frisco Presented State 'Excellence' Award for Smart Irrigation Program
(November 19, 2009) The City of Frisco is the winner of the 2009 Municipal Excellence Award in Public Works for cities with a population of more than 25,000. The award recognizes the city for its Smart Irrigation Program.


 Frisco to Break Ground on Public Parking Garage November 30 
(November 16, 2009) Beginning Monday, November 30, the parking lot behind City Hall and the Frisco Public Library will be closed to make way for the construction of a 574 space, public parking garage. Two, small surface lots will also be constructed with one on the east side, the other on the west side of the garage for a total of 70 additional parking spaces.


City of Frisco Recommends Residents Contact Family Health Care Provider for H1N1 Vaccine Availability
(November 6, 2009) The City of Frisco encourages residents to continue to practice ‘basic, good hygiene’ to help stop the spread of the H1N1 virus. The Centers for Disease Control and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) recommend regular hand washing, covering your cough and staying home if you are sick. The state recommends residents who want to get vaccinated against the H1N1 virus or seasonal flu contact their primary care physician or other family health care provider to check availability.


Frisco NBA Development League Announces Historic Hirings
(November 5, 2009) Donnie Nelson and Evan Wyly, co-owners of Frisco’s NBA Development League team, announced today the hiring of three prominent basketball veterans to lead the Metroplex’s newest professional sports team.


 Additional Charges Brought Against Jaime Navarro
(October 30, 2009) The Frisco Police Department has filed two additional charges against 19-year-old Jaime Cesar Navarro of Frisco for his involvement in the sale and distribution of heroin to a Frisco teenager who was found dead at his residence from an apparent drug overdose early yesterday morning.

(October 28, 2009) The City of Frisco will host two meetings to seek public input regarding the city’s sign ordinance. Development Services staff reviews the document every few years to ensure the ordinance meets public standards and reflects changing community needs. 


Everyday Life on the Shawnee Trail now on Display at the Frisco Heritage Museum
(October 26, 2009)Artifacts and memorabilia that pay homage to The Shawnee Trail and explores and depicts authentic Texas cattle drives are on display for the first time ever at the Frisco Heritage Museum. The exhibit, installed on the second floor of the Heritage Museum will be on view through January 3, 2010 during regular hours of operation.


City of Frisco Receives Notice Exide Technologies Agrees to Withdraw Application to Expand Plant
(October 23, 2009) The City of Frisco received notice today Exide Technologies will voluntarily withdraw its application for a permit amendment with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to increase production limits. In a letter dated October 23, Exide Technologies stated it will work with TCEQ to locate monitors as recommended by TCEQ. 


Traffic Lanes Shift on Preston Road Beginning October 15
(October 15, 2009) As part of TxDOT’s widening project, traffic on Preston Road will be shifted into different lanes between Eldorado Parkway and US 380 on Thursday, October 15.  Specifically, southbound traffic will be shifted onto the shoulder and northbound traffic will be shifted onto the former southbound lane.


North Region SWAT Exercise 
(October 13, 2009) On October 14, 2009, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., numerous agencies from the north Dallas area will be participating in the North Region SWAT Exercise at the Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco.


FieldhouseUSA Announces Partnership with Athletes' Performance Institute
(October 8, 2009) FieldhouseUSA, Frisco’s indoor sports center, announced today that Athletes’ Performance Institute will open its newest elite athletic training facility at FieldhouseUSA.  Anticipated opening day is December 1, 2009. Athletes’ Performance Institute (AP) is the recognized leader in the training of elite athletes. 


City of Frisco, FISD Develop Program to make Schools S.A.F.E.R.
(September 21, 2009) Schools in the Frisco Independent School District (FISD) just got SAFER – literally. Situational Awareness For Emergency Response (or S.A.F.E.R.) is a new, unique program that gives Frisco firefighters, EMTs and police officers immediate access to school building information -- including ‘real time’ video – while heading to campus emergencies at any of the district’s 46 schools.  


Frisco Adopts $76 Million Budget, New Tax Rate
(September 18, 2009) The City of Frisco’s tax rate will be $0.465 per $100 of property value for the next fiscal year.  This tax rate will generate the same amount of revenue as last year on existing property.  The average home value decreased this year by 2.6%.  That means homeowners whose property value dropped may not see an increase in their property tax bill while others may see a slight increase.  


City to do Annual Smoke Testing on the Wastewater Colleciton System in September and October 
(September 8, 2009) Inspection crews will survey a portion of the City of Frisco’s wastewater collection system from September 15 to October 30. The survey will identify areas needing maintenance. New Storm Water Utility Fee to be Charged Monthly, Beginning October 1 
(August 31, 2009) Beginning October 1, Frisco water customers will be charged a monthly Storm Water Utility Fee.  The fee will be $2 per month for the majority of residents.

Hunting in Frisco: New Regulations on Safe Distances
(August 26, 2009) On June 22, 2009 Governor Perry signed into law a new bill that will further restrict the areas in which firearms can be discharged in the City of Frisco and Collin County. Beginning on September 1, along with the opening of dove season, hunters who are planning on obtaining property owners’ permission to use their land for hunting purposes must ensure that they are at least 1,000 feet from schools, hospitals, and day care facilities, as well as at least 600 feet from residential housing and multi-family residential complexes. Lightning Blamed for Overnight Fire that Destroys Home; Damages Expected to Exceed $750,000; No Injuries
(August 21, 2009) Frisco fire investigators suspect lightning caused an early morning fire that destroyed a home.  Dispatchers received a call at 5:21 a.m. this morning about a house fire in the 5000 block of Pinehurst, located in Stonebriar Estates. Firefighters were dispatched at 5:22 a.m.


Frisco Police Remind Motorists of School Zone Speed Limits and New State Law Banning the Use of Hand Held Cell Phones in School Zones 
(August 19, 2009) The Frisco Police Department would like to remind citizens that with Frisco schools starting back next week, the 20 mph school zone speed limits will return.  In addition, beginning September 1 officers will also enforce a new state law that prohibits the use of hand held cell phones in all school zones throughout the city.

Frisco Police Investigate Fatality Accident - Updated Accident Information 
(July 17, 2009)  Frisco Police and Frisco Fire units responded to an accident at US 380 and Dallas Parkway today at 8:57 a.m. A green 1999 Honda SUV driven by Kavari Gael Gray (30 YOA) of the Savannah subdivision in Denton County was traveling eastbound on US 380 and collided with a blue 2003 Dodge pickup driven by Jose Hernandez of Plano (30 YOA). The pickup was traveling westbound on US 380.


Mandatory restrictions of Frisco’s Water Management Plan begin July 1; City Waterwise program offers new weekly watering recommendations to guide residents
(June 30, 2009) The City of Frisco wants to remind residents that mandatory water restrictions for summer months take effect, Wednesday July 1. 
Under the new Water Efficiency Plan, outdoor watering is restricted to two days per week during the summer months and is based on residents’ trash and recycling service schedule and an additional, designated day...  see the map.


NBA League Development Team Comes to Frisco; Colorado 14ers to Move Operations 
The following information provided by NBA Communications:
FRISCO, TX - June 18, 2009 – Texas D-League Management, LLC, has purchased the Colorado 14ers and will relocate the team to Frisco, Texas, it was announced today by NBA Development League President Dan Reed.  The team will begin play in Frisco at the Dr. Pepper Arena for the 2010-11 season.


Frisco Adopts New Water Management Plan; Outdoor Watering Restricted to Two Days per Week During Summers 
(April 8, 2009) The City of Frisco has new, mandatory water restrictions for summer months which emphasize watering efficiently and reducing waste.   Tuesday, April 7, the Frisco City Council approved the plan.  This new plan is now in effect and encompasses a Drought Contingency Plan and a Water Efficiency Plan.  Under the new Water Efficiency Plan, outdoor watering is restricted to two days per week during summer months of July, August and September. It iis based on residents’ trash and recycling service schedule and an additional, designated day.
