Frisco Council Member John Keating Attends Workshop Sponsored by Texas Municipal League
(August 19, 2010) Frisco City Council member John Keating was in Austin on August 13-14, 2010, to attend the Newly Elected City Officials’ Orientation. The meeting provided an opportunity for newly elected city officials to voluntarily enhance their knowledge of city government and sharpen their leadership skills. In addition, the orientation enabled attendees to visit with elected officials from across Texas to learn how other cities are coping with similar challenges.

Scam Involves Fake 'City of Frisco' Checks (February 19, 2010) Frisco police are investigating a scam involving counterfeit ‘City of Frisco’ checks. Police report at least two fake ‘City of Frisco’ checks have been received, this week in the mail, by two different recipients living outside Texas.

Frisco’s Online Ticket Pledge Drive for NCAA Football Ends Monday, Feb. 22 Team Frisco will make its final pitch to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Committee next Thursday, Feb. 25

One Person Arrested after Short Standoff (February 5, 2010) On this date at approximately 2:51 p.m., officers with the Frisco Police Department’s Special Operations Unit (SOU) and negotiators were activated in response to a possible barricaded person at a residence in the 9300-block of Penton Place. Patrol officers had originally responded to the location earlier in the day after it was reported by the homeowner that an acquaintance had entered the residence uninvited. The homeowner stated that the subject was possibly armed.

Frisco Initiates Online Ticket Pledge Drive for NCAA Football Title Games City trying to attract the NCAA Division I Championship games following the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons (January 25, 2010) Officials in Frisco have announced an online ticket pledge initiative for the city’s efforts to attract the NCAA Division I Football Championship games following the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons. Linking to the website www.collegefootballfrisco.com will give online visitors the opportunity to learn more about Frisco’s effort to serve as host, and also allow them to pledge their ticket interest should the event be played at the 23,000-seat multi-purpose Pizza Hut Park.

14th Annual Daddy Daughter Dance Happens Saturday, February 6 with 'Alice in Wonderland' Theme; Ticket Sales Begin Saturday, January 9 (January 7, 2010) Don’t be late for this very important date! The City of Frisco’s 14th Annual Daddy Daughter Dance will have daddies and their little girls dancing into the pages of a classic children’s story. ‘Alice in Wonderland’ is the theme of this year’s dance, which happens Saturday, February 6. Frisco to Break Ground on Public Parking Garage November 30 (November 16, 2009) Beginning Monday, November 30, the parking lot behind City Hall and the Frisco Public Library will be closed to make way for the construction of a 574 space, public parking garage. Two, small surface lots will also be constructed with one on the east side, the other on the west side of the garage for a total of 70 additional parking spaces.

City of Frisco Recommends Residents Contact Family Health Care Provider for H1N1 Vaccine Availability (November 6, 2009) The City of Frisco encourages residents to continue to practice ‘basic, good hygiene’ to help stop the spread of the H1N1 virus. The Centers for Disease Control and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) recommend regular hand washing, covering your cough and staying home if you are sick. The state recommends residents who want to get vaccinated against the H1N1 virus or seasonal flu contact their primary care physician or other family health care provider to check availability.

Additional Charges Brought Against Jaime Navarro (October 30, 2009) The Frisco Police Department has filed two additional charges against 19-year-old Jaime Cesar Navarro of Frisco for his involvement in the sale and distribution of heroin to a Frisco teenager who was found dead at his residence from an apparent drug overdose early yesterday morning.

Traffic Lanes Shift on Preston Road Beginning October 15 (October 15, 2009) As part of TxDOT’s widening project, traffic on Preston Road will be shifted into different lanes between Eldorado Parkway and US 380 on Thursday, October 15. Specifically, southbound traffic will be shifted onto the shoulder and northbound traffic will be shifted onto the former southbound lane.

City of Frisco, FISD Develop Program to make Schools S.A.F.E.R. (September 21, 2009) Schools in the Frisco Independent School District (FISD) just got SAFER – literally. Situational Awareness For Emergency Response (or S.A.F.E.R.) is a new, unique program that gives Frisco firefighters, EMTs and police officers immediate access to school building information -- including ‘real time’ video – while heading to campus emergencies at any of the district’s 46 schools.

Frisco Adopts $76 Million Budget, New Tax Rate (September 18, 2009) The City of Frisco’s tax rate will be $0.465 per $100 of property value for the next fiscal year. This tax rate will generate the same amount of revenue as last year on existing property. The average home value decreased this year by 2.6%. That means homeowners whose property value dropped may not see an increase in their property tax bill while others may see a slight increase.

Hunting in Frisco: New Regulations on Safe Distances (August 26, 2009) On June 22, 2009 Governor Perry signed into law a new bill that will further restrict the areas in which firearms can be discharged in the City of Frisco and Collin County. Beginning on September 1, along with the opening of dove season, hunters who are planning on obtaining property owners’ permission to use their land for hunting purposes must ensure that they are at least 1,000 feet from schools, hospitals, and day care facilities, as well as at least 600 feet from residential housing and multi-family residential complexes.
