Panther Creek Parkway At DNT Partially Closed For Intersection Improvements

(June 25, 2008) Starting today, Panther Creek Parkway is partially closed at the Dallas North Tollway (DNT) for one week so improvements can be made to the intersection.  The intersection will reopen on Wednesday, July 2. 


Section of Eastbound Main Street Temporarily Closed Friday and Saturday night, June 27 & 28, Due to Pizza Hut Park Concert

(June 25, 2008) Eastbound Main Street -- between Legacy Drive and Dallas Parkway -- will be closed to traffic at 10 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, June 27 and 28, in order to move traffic out of Pizza Hut Park following the KLTY Celebrate Freedom Concert.  Main Street should be open again by around 1 a.m. 


Frisco Athletic Center Closed for Evening while Crews Repair Water Pipe

(June 25, 2008) The Frisco Athletic Center is closed for the evening while crews repair a leaking pipe.  As a result, all classes are cancelled and the outdoor water park is closed, as well.  The FAC will reopen tomorrow morning at 5 a.m. 


Home Invasion Robbery

(June 23, 2008) On June 23, 2008, at approximately 10:11a.m., Frisco Police responded to the 7000 block of Rawlins Lane in response to a robbery at a residence. 


New Northbound Lanes of Legacy Now Open

(June 23, 2008) The new northbound lanes of Legacy between Stonebrook Parkway and Main Street are now open to traffic.  Motorists are urged to use caution in the area.

(June 10, 2008) On June 7, 2008, at approximately 12:58 a.m., Frisco Police and EMS responded to an injury accident on Custer Road one quarter mile north of S.H. 121 in Frisco. 


County Road 68 Temporarily Closed Beginning June 12

(June 10, 2008) County Road 68 will be closed between Coit Road and Independence Parkway beginning Thursday, June 12th at 9:30 a.m. and will remain closed for up to three weeks, depending on weather.

Deputy U.S. Marshals Arrest Wanted Frisco Fugitive

(May 19, 2008) Deputy U.S. Marshals, stationed in Mexico, have arrested Mario Alberto Martinez, 24, formerly of Frisco TX.  Martinez is charged with Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated Robbery, and Aggravated Sexual Assault.

City Plans To Reopen Section Of F.M. 3537 At 4 a.m., Monday, May 12; Discarded Cigarette Blamed For Sparking Fire That Forced Road Closure

Frisco Police Arrest Downtown Burglary Suspect

(April 17, 2008) Frisco Police have arrested Asher David Feehan, 20, of Frisco, for Burglary of a Building, and plan to charge him with a rash of early morning business burglaries that have been occurring in the downtown area as well as other locations in Frisco.


Shattered Dreams Program to Educate Students About the Dangers of Underage Drinking and Driving

(April 15, 2008) On April 17-18, the Frisco Police Department, in conjunction with the Frisco Fire Department and Frisco Independent School District, will present Shattered Dreams at Wakeland High School.  The two-day program is designed to educate students, parents, and the community about the serious issue of underage drinking and driving, by providing a realistic experience and encouraging them to make positive choices.


Frisco Police Prepare to File Criminal Charges

(April 7, 2008) The Frisco Police Department expects to file criminal charges of Attempted Capital Murder and Aggravated Sexual Assault against Stanley Vernell Ledbetter Jr. Ledbetter was arrested last week by Plano Police on a Dallas Police Department warrant. He is a suspect in the April 2007 home invasion of a Frisco resident where she was sexually assaulted, stabbed and left for dead.


City of Frisco Environmental Services to Host Environmental Forum on Battery Recycling

Full Steam Ahead! The Museum Of The American Railroad To Move To Frisco

(April 3, 2008)  The historic move is bringing ‘the Frisco’ back to Frisco! The vintage steam locomotive, Engine 4501 – built in 1942 for the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway Company -- is one of 36 pieces of rolling stock bound for Frisco following this week’s announcement the Museum of the American Railroad (MAR) plans to move its permanent collection from Fair Park in Dallas to Frisco Junction, which is also home to the soon-to-be open Frisco Heritage Museum. 


Last Day to Register To Vote in May Election is April 10

(March 27, 2008) Your vote does count, but you must be registered.  The last day to register to vote in the City of Frisco’s upcoming May general election is April 10, 2008.  On May 10, Frisco voters will elect a new mayor and two new council members to the Frisco City Council.  Mayor Mike Simpson is leaving office, due to term limits.   Aside from electing city representatives, voters will be considering a referendum regarding an ordinance regulating ‘late hours’ alcohol sales. 


New Interactive Map Helps Residents Pinpoint 'Dangerous Dogs' in the Neighborhood

(March 27, 2008)  Frisco residents have a new high tech tool to keep them informed about dangerous dogs in their neighborhood. An online, interactive map allows you to find out where the animals – deemed ‘dangerous’ by a municipal judge – live in the city. Using GIS technology, residents can click on any ‘dog house’ icon and find the address, description and a photo of ‘dangerous dogs’ within Frisco city limits.

(March 24, 2008)  Beginning tomorrow, March 25, Preston Vineyards will be closed east of Preston Road.  Beginning at
9 a.m., city crews will begin repairing a sewer line. 


Man Dies after Stabbing

(March 23, 2008) On Sunday morning at approximately 12:07 a.m. Frisco Police and Fire personnel responded to a possible stabbing in the 5600 block of Preston North Dr.  Responding officers discovered a male victim lying on the road, unconscious and bleeding from his torso.  The victim, Adrian Tristan, 25, from Mexico, was transported to Centennial Medical Center of Frisco, where he later died from his injuries. 


Frisco Resident Shot By Intruder

(March 20, 2008) At approximately 6 p.m., Frisco Police officers responded to a reported shooting in the 8400 nlock of Hickory in Frisco. Upon arrival, officers were advised by the victim, Steven Geddie, 24, of Frisco, that he arrived home from work and a few minutes later heard someone breaking in the rear door of his residence.

(March 14, 2008) Roads inside the ‘Frisco Square’ development will be closed tomorrow, Saturday, March 15 from
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. due to the ‘Flower Power Festival’.  As a result, the roadway around City Hall Plaza will be closed during that time, as well. 


Suspicious Persons Call Leads to Police Vehicle and Officer Being Struck, Then Injury Accident

(March 12, 2008) On Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Frisco Police Officers responded to a suspicious persons call in the 1000 block of Knightsbridge Drive.  The first responding officer encountered five subjects in the back yard smoking what appears to be marijuana, and detained all subjects. 


Frisco Police To Step Up D.W.I. Patrols During Spring Break

(March 7, 2008) Starting March 7 and running through March 23, Frisco Police will be staffing additional officers to patrol the streets with the purpose of targeting drunk drivers. The additional patrols are part of a partnership between the Frisco Police Department and the Texas Department of Transportation through an Impaired Driving Mobilization (IDM) Grant.


 
Easter Eggstravaganza Scheduled for March 8 Postponed; Rescheduled for March 15

(March 7, 2008) The City of Frisco’s Easter Eggstravaganza scheduled for tomorrow, March 8, at Pizza Hut Park has been postponed due to soaked fields and temperatures forecast below freezing. The make-up date is Saturday, March 15.

At this time, only the egg hunt will be held on that date at 10:30 a.m. at Warren Sports Complex, 7599 Eldorado Pkwy – not Pizza Hut Park.


Frisco City Council Adopts Sex Offender Ordinance

(March 5, 2008) On Tuesday night, March 4, 2008, the Frisco City Council passed an Ordinance establishing residency restrictions for child predator offenders, making it unlawful for certain sex offenders to reside within 1,000 feet of premises where children commonly gather.


Easter Eggstravaganza Hops to a New Location; 65,000 Eggs Up For Grabs at Pizza Hut Park on March 8

(March 4, 2008)  Grab your basket and hippity-hop over to Pizza Hut Park for an “egg”cellent time this Saturday, March 8 from 9 a.m. to noon.  The 16TH Annual Easter Eggstravaganza is happening at a new venue this year.  The City of Frisco Parks and Recreation Department moved the event from Warren Sports Complex to Pizza Hut Park to make room for the biggest bunch of eggs the Easter Bunny has ever brought to Frisco – 65,000!


Pavement Repairs On Southbound DNT Frontage Road To Begin March 10

(February 29, 2008)  Beginning Monday, March 10, the City of Frisco will begin repairing a southbound section of the Dallas North Tollway (DNT) frontage roads between Main Street and the railroad crossing.

Lightning Sparks House Fire, Damages Estimated at $500,000; No Injuries

(February 12, 2008)  Firefighters say lightning caused an overnight house fire that destroyed a home in the 5100 block of Iroquois Drive.  No one was hurt.  Damages to property and contents are estimated at approximately $500,000.

City To Discontinue Contract With CCART; Bus Service To End March 1, 2008

(February 6, 2008) The contract between the City of Frisco and Collin County Area Regional Transit (CCART) is being discontinued.  As a result, the free fixed route bus service will end on March 1, 2008. 


Lane Changes Made to Ease Congestion at Main Street and FM 423

(February 1, 2008) The City of Frisco has made lane changes to ease congestion on westbound Main Street at the FM 423 traffic signal.  The lane changes are effective immediately and affect drivers traveling in the left lane and right lane of westbound Main Street.


Great Texas Warrant Roundup Begins February 16

(February 1, 2008) – More than 160 law enforcement jurisdictions from across Texas will participate in the “Great Texas Warrant Roundup,” beginning Saturday, February 16, 2008. In this state-wide effort, officers will arrest people with outstanding warrants pending before their respective Municipal Courts.


Section of Timber Ridge Drive Closed While Crews Repair 'Capped' Gas Line

(February 1, 2008) A section of Timber Ridge Drive is closed while utility crews repair a natural gas line that has been capped and ‘shut off’. At approximately, 10:30 a.m. Frisco Firefighters were alerted to the gas leak after a utility crew cut the line while working to install a fiber optic line in the 2000 block of Timber Ridge Drive. 


Frisco Police Arrest Three in Murder Case

(January 30, 2008)  The Frisco Police Department has made three arrests in the murder of Craig William Nail. Mr. Nail was found deceased in his Frisco home the day after Christmas 2007. The arrested suspects are identified as, Mark Kyle Bell, 52, Vera Elizabeth Guthrie-Nail, 42, and Thomas Edward Grace, 55.


Candidate Filing To Begin February 11 For Three Council Seats, Including Mayoral Position

(January 22, 2008) Candidates interested in running for Frisco City Council may file for a place on the May 2008 ballot, beginning February 11.  The last day to file for Frisco City Council is March 10. Three seats, including the Mayoral position and Places 5 and 6, will be open. All positions on the Frisco City Council are “at large” positions. 


Deceased Person Identified

(January 22, 2008) The man that fell to his death at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 7600 John Q. Hammonds Drive, has been identified.  The man fell from an upper floor interior walkway Friday evening, January 18, 2008. 

He has been identified as, Bryan Hogue Sherrod, 22, of Frisco Texas.  The Collin County Medical Examiner has ruled the death a suicide.


Fourth Annual Trick-A-Trout Kid Fish, February 9

(January 18, 2008) Got bait? Want to fish? The City of Frisco Parks & Recreation Department will be releasing 3,750 Rainbow Trout in the pond at Frisco Commons, at 8000 McKinney Road, on Saturday, February 9 starting at 8 a.m. The event marks the fourth annual Trick-A-Trout Kid Fish.  The pond is at the north end of the park near the amphitheater.


Frisco Public Library To Extend Hours Beginning Monday, February 4

(January 18, 2008) Very soon Frisco citizens will have more opportunity to enjoy all that the Frisco Public Library has to offer. The Frisco Public Library, located inside the George A. Purefoy Municipal Center at 6101 Frisco Square Blvd., is extending its hours beginning Monday, February 4.  The expanded hours will allow library staff to better serve the growing number of patrons.


Sign Ordinance Amended; Allows More Flexibility For Posting Garage Sale Signs, Open House Signs

(January 16, 2008)  The rules for posting garage sale and open house signs are changing.  Beginning January 25, these signs can be placed on residential properties with the owner’s permission from 9 a.m. Saturday through 6 p.m. Sunday of the same weekend when a garage sale or ‘open house’ is held.


Frisco Police Detectives Execute Search Warrant

(January 16, 2008) On Tuesday, January 15, 2008, Frisco Police Detectives and other Law Enforcement Officers executed a Search Warrant in China Spring, TX.  The Search Warrant was executed as a part of the investigation into the December 26, 2007 shooting death of Craig William Nail, of Frisco, TX.


Crews Working To Repair Natural Gas Leak; Section of 6th Street Closed

(January 15, 2008)  Frisco Firefighters are monitoring a natural gas leak near the intersection of Hickory Street and 6th Street.   An excavation crew with Atmos arrived at the scene just before 3:30.  Utility crews estimate it will take at least an hour to ‘shut off’ gas to the line. 


Section of Wade Blvd. Temporarily Reduced to Two Lanes Beginning Today

(January 11, 2008) Beginning today at 9 a.m. the City of Frisco will be diverting traffic on Wade Blvd. east of Preston Road. East and westbound traffic will be narrowed to two lanes at the traffic signal to accommodate drainage construction on the east side of Preston Road.

Frisco Police Arrest Suspect For Criminal Solicitation Murder

(January 10, 2008) Frisco Police detectives have arrested a suspect in connection with the investigation into a homicide that occurred on December 26, 2007 in the 8500 block of Pebblebrook Drive in Frisco. The suspect, Vera Elizabeth Guthrie-Nail, 42, was arrested at SH 121 and Hebron Parkway in Carrollton, TX.

(January 7, 2008) The City of Frisco’s 12th Annual Daddy Daughter Dance is fast approaching, and tickets are limited for what has become a tradition for many Frisco families. (December 27, 2007) The two shooting victims in the December 26 double shooting in the 8500 block of Pebblebrook have been identified. The victim that survived is identified as: Therisa Hofman, 38 years of age. The deceased victim is identified as: Craig Nail, 36 years of age.


Double Shooting Leaves One Dead; Frisco Police Investigating

(December 27, 2007) On Wednesday, December 26, 2007, at approximately 7:30pm, Frisco Police and EMS personnel responded to 8584 Pebblebrook in Frisco in response to a reported shooting. Police officers responding were advised by a female victim that she had been shot multiple times and that another victim was still inside the residence. Officers entered the residence and discovered a male victim, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. 


Frisco Police to Step Up DWI Patrols Through the Holidays

(December 19, 2007) Starting December 21 and running through January 1, Frisco Police will be staffing additional officers to patrol the streets with the purpose of targeting drunk drivers. The additional patrols are part of a partnership between the Frisco Police Department and the Texas Department of Transportation through an Impaired Driving Mobilization (IDM) Grant.


Utility Crews To Clear Natural Gas Line On December 20

(December 18, 2007) Beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, December 20, Atmos utility crews will be clearing (or flaring) a pipeline of natural gas near the intersection of 4th Army and Lebanon.  As a result, residents and passersby may see large flames (or ‘flaring’) and hear a loud noise.    Atmos reports this action is routine and necessary before work can be performed on the line. 


Frisco Police Offer Reward for Mario Alberto Martinez

(December 17, 2007)  The Frisco Police Department is offering a reward of $3,000.00 (three thousand dollars) for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Mario Alberto Martinez, W/M, date 07-11-83, 24 years old. Martinez is wanted for Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated Robbery, and Aggravated Sexual Assault.


Injury Accident Takes Life of Celina Resident

(December 18, 2007) At approximately 8:06am, Frisco Police and Fire units responded to an injury accident on U.S. 380 and Lacima Drive in Frisco.  The accident involved a 2000 Volkswagen Passat and a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle.  The Volkswagen had been southbound on Lacima and was turning eastbound onto Hwy. 380. The motorcycle was traveling westbound and was struck by the Volkswagen.


City of Frisco Christmas Holiday Hours

(December 14, 2007)  In observance of Christmas, the City of Frisco government offices will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, December 24 and 25. Regular hours will resume December 26.  City of Frisco government offices will also close the following week on Tuesday, January 1 for the New Year’s holiday.

Frisco Jewelry Store Robbed At Gunpoint

(December 5, 2007)  On Wednesday, December 5, at approximately 11:13 a.m., Frisco Police Officers responded to a robbery alarm at Marc Samuels Jewelers.  When officers arrived, they were told by two female employees that the store had been robbed by two armed men that were wearing pig face masks and pointing semi-automatic handguns.

(November 29, 2007) Tree Lighting Ceremony Celebration Kicks Off This Year Starting at 6 p.m.  Every year, the City of Frisco kicks off its holiday season with the Merry Main Street celebration, hosted by the Parks & Recreation Department with help from other departments and divisions. For thousands of Frisco families, this is a holiday tradition.  This year, the Tree Lighting Ceremony starts at 6 p.m. Mayor Mike Simpson will lead the ‘countdown’ to light the tree at approximately 6:20 p.m. Joining Mayor Simpson in the countdown will be members of the Frisco City Council.   


Early Warning Sirens To Be Tested Weekly Beginning November 28 Through January 30

(November 20, 2007) The Frisco Fire Department will begin sounding its Outdoor Warning Siren system every Wednesday at noon beginning November 28 through January 30. The weekly, audible tests are necessary to ensure the sirens are working properly and to help prepare for the 2008 severe weather season.

Frisco Fire Safety Town Hosts Fall Festival Tomorrow Night

(October 25, 2007) Frisco Fire Safety Town (FFST) is hosting its first Fall Festival on Friday, October 26 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Children who are tots to fifth graders are invited to safely trick-or-treat at the FFST miniature buildings, located at 8601 Gary Burns Drive, next to Central Fire Station.

So that parking doesn’t become too scary for the adults, park at the corner of Main Street and Dogwood.  Electronic signs on Main Street will direct drivers to the lot.  Parking is free.  The whole family can ride along with the fire clowns on the VIP Shuttle of Fun.  We will take you right to the doors of Safety Town.


Frisco Athletic Center To Hold Grand Opening Celebration On Saturday, October 27

(October 25, 2007)  After years of planning and months of construction, the City of Frisco Parks and Recreation Department is proud to host the Grand Opening Celebration for the new Frisco Athletic Center.  The grand opening event happens this Saturday, October 27, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., at 5828 Nancy Jane Ln (southeast of the intersection of Preston Road and Wade Boulevard.)

A short outdoor ceremony will take place in front of the building starting at 3 p.m.  Immediately following, the public is invited to take guided tours of the 100,000 square foot facility. 

The Frisco Athletic Center will be open for tours only on Saturday, October 27, and members will not be able to workout that day.  The facility is also closed Sunday, October 28.   The Frisco Athletic Center opens for normal operating hours beginning at 5 a.m. on Monday, October 29.

'Late Night Ordinance' Suspended Until Matter Put Before Voters in May 2008

(October 19, 2007) The City of Frisco’s ‘Late Night Hours’ ordinance is suspended until Frisco voters have a chance to decide whether alcohol should be served until 2 a.m.

Effective immediately, there is not a City of Frisco ordinance that authorizes businesses to serve alcohol past midnight. A referendum special election to be held on May 10, 2008 will determine whether the ‘Late Night Hours’ ordinance can go into effect at that time.


Special Town Hall Meeting To Discuss Eldorado Parkway; October 25 at Boals Elementary

A special Town Hall meeting to discuss the construction schedule for Eldorado Parkway will be held Thursday, October 25 from 7 – 9 p.m. at Boals Elementary, 2035 Jaguar Drive.  Mayor Mike Simpson and George Purefoy, City Manager, will host the meeting.  Staff from the City of Frisco Engineering Services Department, as well as representatives from the Texas Department of Transportation, will be present to share information and to answer questions about Eldorado Parkway, which is a state roadway. 


Section of Eldorado Parkway To Temporarily Close October 19 - 21

The section of Eldorado Parkway -- between Dallas Parkway and Legacy Road -- will be closed beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, October.  The closure is scheduled to continue through 6 p.m. Sunday, October 21.  The temporary road closure is necessary while crews make major drainage improvements across Eldorado Parkway.


Frisco Fire Safety Town Hosts Its First Fall Festival

(October 12, 2007) Be one of the first to help celebrate a new October tradition. Frisco Fire Safety Town (FFST) is hosting its first Fall Festival on Friday, October 26 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Children who are tots to fifth graders are invited to come trick-or-treat safely at the many FFST miniature buildings, located at 8601 Gary Burns Drive, next to Central Fire Station.

Each of the sponsors will decorate the miniature buildings that make up Frisco Fire Safety Town, but nothing too scary for the little ones.  Sponsors along with the resident clowns, Flash, Smokey, Siren and Skwert will hand out treats and share safety tips.  As kids arrive they will receive a treat bag to carry their goodies in.


Frisco To Dedicate City Hall Plaza and Fountain; Town Hall Meeting To Follow Ceremony on Monday, October 22

(October 11, 2007) The city of Frisco will dedicate City Hall Plaza and its fountain centerpiece on Monday, October 22 during a ceremony beginning at 6 p.m. The ceremony will take place alongside the fountain, which is located in the front of the George A. Purefoy Municipal Center, 6101 Frisco Square Blvd, and in the heart of Frisco Square.

The public is invited to attend and receive a commemorative coin, enjoy the sounds of a jazz ensemble, courtesy of the Frisco Community Band and assist Mayor Mike Simpson and the City Council with the burying of a time capsule.

Following the City Hall Plaza Dedication ceremonies, citizens are encouraged to walk across the plaza to the Frisco Council Chambers inside the George A. Purefoy Municipal Center and attend the last Town Hall meeting of 2007.


Frisco Urban Forestry Board Hosts 2007 Arborfest Celebration

(October 11, 2007) Branch out and learn more about the dozens of different trees in the City of Frisco. The City’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Urban Forestry Board invite you to the 2007 Arborfest celebration on Saturday, October 20, in Frisco Commons Park, located at 8000 McKinney Road. Frisco Athletic Center Founding Membership Drive Extended Through October 27

(October 11, 2007) The City of Frisco Parks and Recreation Department is extending the deadline to become a ‘Founding Member’ of the new Frisco Athletic Center.  Due to the success of the pre-sale program, Founding Membership annual passes will remain on sale through the Grand Opening Celebration. The grand opening event is Saturday, October 27, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the new Frisco Athletic Center and is open to the public.

Annual memberships are currently on sale Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the lobby of City Hall at the George A. Purefoy Municipal Center, located at 6101 Frisco Square Blvd.  Memberships are available for purchase at the City Hall location through Saturday, October 20.

Annual Community Parade to Salute the Troops

(October 11, 2007) Frisco loves a parade in the fall and the annual Community Parade is a chance for families to come out and celebrate Veterans Day weekend, listen to all four high school marching bands and wave at the local football heroes.

The Veterans Day event honors our military and also gives each school a chance for student organizations to be highlighted. This year’s event is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Main Street on Saturday, November 10.

Two Vehicle Collision Kills Resident of The Colony

(October 3, 2007) On October 3, 2007, at approximately 12:06pm, Frisco Police and Fire Units responded to an injury accident, with extrication.  The accident occurred on FM 423, approximately 800 feet south of Panther Creek. According to witnesses at the scene, a 2002 Volkswagen was traveling southbound on FM 423 when the driver lost control, left the roadway, then entered back onto the roadway into the northbound lane and was struck broadside on the passenger side by a 2001 Ford SUV, which had been traveling northbound on FM 423


DNT Traffic Advisory

(September 26, 2007) The Gaylord Parkway exit ramp of the Dallas North Tollway will be closed from 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27 until 6 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 28. All northbound traffic on the Tollway will be required to exit at the State Highway 121 exit ramp during this time. Service roads will be open for motorists to proceed north.


Opening of Tollway Extension to Improve Mobility

(Plano, TX) Over 40,000 drivers daily are expected to benefit from improved mobility thanks to the opening of the 9.6-mile extension of the Dallas North Tollway from just north of State Highway (SH) 121 to U.S. 380 on Friday, Sept. 28, 2007.

The northbound lanes of the roadway will be open to traffic prior to the Friday evening commute.  Opening of the southbound traffic lanes will follow.  The Phase 3 extension of the Tollway will open with cash and TollTag options at each tolled ramp and the main lane toll plaza. 


Second Mosquito Sample Tests Positive for WNV; city reminds residents to protect themselves against mosquito bites through the end of October, first freeze

(September 20, 2007)  A second mosquito sample collected in Frisco during the 2007 season has tested positive for West Nile Virus. City health inspectors report the mosquito sample was collected from a standing pool of water near the intersection of Teel and Eldorado Parkway. 

On Monday, September 17, the City of Frisco sprayed within a half-mile radius of the intersection of Teel and Eldorado Parkway after the Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed Frisco’s ‘first’ mosquito sample to test ‘positive’ was taken from the same area. 


Newest Section of Dallas North Tollway to Open on Sept. 28; Traffic flow, commute times expected to improve for Collin and Denton County drivers

Plano, TX The highly anticipated Phase 3 extension of the Dallas North Tollway, extending from State Highway 121 to U.S. 380, will open to traffic on Friday, Sept. 28.  The 9.6-mile stretch of roadway, with an estimated project cost of $264 million, will include three traffic lanes in each direction.  Though some construction will continue after the opening, the NTTA understands the importance of improving mobility and wanted to open this crucial link to the Metroplex as soon as possible. 


Council Adopts Juvenile Curfew Ordinance

(September 20, 2007) The Frisco City Council approved a motion to adopt an ordinance enacting a juvenile curfew within the city of Frisco. The curfew, which will apply to all persons under seventeen (17) years of age, will take effect on Friday, September 28. Persons under 17 years of age will be prohibited from remaining in a public place or on the premises of any establishment within the city during curfew hours, which are 12:00 am to 6:00 am, seven days a week.


Council Approves Revised Benefits for Frisco Athletic Center; New Facility Now Offering Child Care and Group Exercise Programs at No Additional Cost

(September 19, 2007) The City of Frisco is offering you ‘more for your money’ when you join the new Frisco Athletic Center, which will open its doors to the public on October 29.  Child care and group exercise programs, such as step aerobics and yoga, will now be included in your membership at no additional cost. 

Advanced, annual membership ‘all access’ passes are on sale through October 13 in the main lobby of the George A. Purefoy Municipal Center, located at 6101 Frisco Square Blvd. Membership sales will be available Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. –  5 p.m. 


Friscotexas.gov Honored As 'Best Government Web Site'

(September 19, 2007)  Friscotexas.gov received international recognition, beating out global competitors for a top honor.  The City of Frisco won the award for “Best Government Web Site” in the Ektron All-Star Awards.

Ektron Inc., a developer of Web content management software, chose only one winner in 20 categories. Ektron reviewed and analyzed hundreds of web sites for the awards.  Contestants were judged on how they utilized Ektron’s content management technology to develop dynamic, engaging and interactive Web sites. 


City to Spray For Mosquitoes on Monday, September 17

(September 14, 2007)  The City of Frisco will spray for mosquitoes on Monday, September 17.  The city’s decision to spray follows confirmation received September 13 from the Texas Department of  State Health Services that a mosquito sample taken from Frisco tested positive for West Nile Virus. The City of Frisco reports the mosquito sample was collected from a standing pool of water near the intersection of Teel and Eldorado Parkway.  This is the first mosquito sample collected during the 2007 season in Frisco to test ‘positive’. 

As a result, a private, licensed applicator will begin spraying within a half-mile radius of the ‘positive’ area.  The application truck will drive streets within the impacted area starting at 10:00 p.m. on Monday, September 17 through 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 18. That said, the typical time required for spraying is four to seven hours. 


Frisco Police Officer Involved in Injury Accident

(September 14, 2007) A Frisco Police Officer responding to an injury accident at approximately 9:13 am was involved in an injury accident at the intersection of Main St. and Independence Parkway in Frisco. The officer was responding to a reported injury accident at Main St. and Custer Rd. in Frisco.

According to witnesses at the scene, the police vehicle was traveling eastbound on Main St. with lights and siren activated and entered the intersection against a red light. The police vehicle struck a black Infiniti that was traveling southbound on Independence Parkway.

(September 10, 2007) The Frisco Police Department is pleased to announce their participation in a new program that allows the general public and insurance companies access to motor vehicle accidents via the Internet.

In an effort to provide a higher level of customer service, by expediting the process of obtaining an accident report, the Frisco Police Department has partnered with PoliceReports.US. This partnership will allow citizens to obtain accident reports investigated by the Frisco Police Department, through the convenience of a user-friendly Internet site.


Frisco Police Department Joins Crimeweb.net

(September 5, 2007) The Frisco Police Department has contracted with Citizen Notification Service to make Crimeweb.net available for Frisco citizens to receive information from the Frisco Police Department.  The Crime Web system will allow the Frisco Police to email residents information on such topics as major crimes, registered sex offenders, missing children/adults, school safety information, community information, and homeland security information.


Motorcycle Crash Victim Identified

(September 7, 2007) The victim from Thursdays motorcycle crash on Preston Rd. at Mockingbird, in Frisco, has been positively identified as, Pedro Trevino, H/M, 28, of Celina, TX.

According to witnesses, Mr. Trevino was traveling northbound on Preston Rd. at a high rate of speed and was attempting to pass on the right shoulder when he struck the left rear of a Chevrolet pickup that was turning right onto Mockingbird. The impact threw Mr. Trevino off of the motorcycle into the southbound lane of Preston, where he was struck by two southbound pickup trucks.


Motorcycle Crash Kills Rider

(September 6, 2007) At approximately 2:39 p.m., Frisco Police and Fire units responded to a reported major accident on Preston Rd. at Mockingbird in Frisco.  A yellow and black Suzuki motorcycle had been traveling northbound on Preston Rd. at a high rate of speed and was attempting to pass another vehicle on the right shoulder. 

The motorcycle struck the left rear of a blue Chevrolet pickup that was attempting to turn right on to Mockingbird. The impact threw the rider off of the motorcycle into the southbound lane of Preston, where he was struck by two southbound pickup trucks.  The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.

Frisco Fire Department Marks 10 Years of Citizens Fire Academy Training

(September 6, 2007) Ever wonder what it is like to walk in a firefighter’s shoes?  The Frisco Fire Department is taking applications for Citizens Fire Academy Class No. 20. The class marks the 10th anniversary of the Citizens Fire Academy (CFA) program in Frisco.  Classes for CFA No. 20 begin September 13.  CFA students meet Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., for nine weeks. 


Investigators Say Arson is Cause of Early Morning House Fire

(August 29, 2007) The Frisco Fire Marshal says this morning’s fire that destroyed a home was intentionally set using an accelerant.

”There were reports of an explosion early this morning, which would have been the result of the rapid ignition of flammable liquid,” said Don Fernandez, Frisco Fire Marshal.  The type of flammable liquid used has not yet been determined. 

At approximately 2:40 this morning, Frisco Firefighters were called to 6849 Sharpshire Drive after receiving calls from an alarm company and neighbors.


Early Morning Fire Destroys Home; No Injuries

(August 29, 2007) The Frisco Fire Marshal says the cause of an early morning fire, which destroyed a home, is suspicious.  Frisco firefighters were called to 6849 Sharpshire Drive at 2:40 a.m. after receiving calls from an alarm company and neighbors.


Home Invasion Suspect Composite Released; Tip Line Established

(August 23, 2007)  Metroplex Law Enforcement Agencies are asking for media and citizens' assistance in identifying and apprehending a violent home invasion suspect. The suspect is described as a black male, 20 – 30 years old, 6’, and very muscular.

A Home Invasion Tip Line has been established. The Tip Line is being staffed by personnel from agencies involved in the Task Force. The Tip Line will be staffed by police personnel during anticipated peak hours and has message capabilities. Schepps Dairy has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of this violent individual.

Council Approves 'Late Night Hours' Ordinance for Alcohol Sales in Restaurants

(August 22, 2007)  The Frisco City Council has approved a ‘late night hours’ ordinance which allows restaurants to extend the hours for alcohol sales to 2 a.m. with approved permits.  

The ordinance takes effect August 31; however, restaurants may not begin sales until after the business has received permit approval from TABC.


National Police Motorcycle Championship Happening in Frisco August 22 - 25

(August 16, 2007) The Frisco Police Department is the host agency for the 2007 Motorcops.com National Training and Skills Championship being held at Pizza Hut Park on August 22 through 25.  The event will bring motorcycle officers from all over the U.S. for two days of training and then two days of competition. The event will also serve as a fundraiser for police-oriented charities.

McKinney Man in Critical Condition After Being Struck by Lightning

(August 17, 2007) A 36-year-old McKinney man is in critical condition tonight after being stuck by lightning.  Frisco Firefighters say it happened at approximately 7:30 p.m. in the 15000 block of Atkins Lane in Frisco.


Frisco Has One Confirmed Case of West Nile Virus, Second Case Under Investigation

(August 14, 2007) The Collin County Health Care Services reports Frisco has one confirmed human case of West Nile virus (WNV).  A second case is under investigation.  The confirmed case is in the 75034 zip code.  In the case under investigation, the person lives in the 75035 zip code.  Both persons are Collin County residents.

In the confirmed case, the resident moved to Frisco August 10; however, the resident reported symptoms prior to moving here.


Suspect in drug store robbery arrested

(August 15, 2007)  Less than 24 hours after a knife-wielding suspect jumped over the counter and demanded narcotics from the pharmacist, Frisco Police arrested Christopher Max Hughes, Jr., 23, of Prosper for the crime.  

On Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at approximately 12:50 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Walgreens located at 5049 Preston Road, regarding a robbery.  Upon arrival store personnel advised a white male in his early 20s had jumped over the pharmacy counter, threatened an employee with a knife, and demanded narcotics.

(August 10, 2007) On Thursday, August 9, 2007, at approximately 6 48 a.m., Frisco Police responded to a suspicious person complaint in the 8000 block of Hickory Street. The reporting person provided officers with a description of a white male, driving a champagne-colored Chevrolet truck, who spoke to her; she thought he was acting suspiciously.

Approximately one hour later, Frisco Police received a second complaint on a vehicle matching the description of the earlier call at the campus of the Collin County Community College, located at 9700 Wade Boulevard.


DNT Ramps Closed for Inspections August 11 and 12

August 6, 2007) At the request of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), entrance and exit ramps to and from Interstate Highway (IH) 35 to the Dallas North Tollway (DNT) will be temporarily closed this weekend. 

On Saturday, Aug. 11, the northbound entrance ramp to the Tollway from IH 35 will be closed from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Drivers may enter the Tollway at Wycliff Avenue. 

Then, on Sunday, Aug. 12, drivers traveling southbound on the Tollway will not be able to exit onto IH 35 from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Instead, they will have to exit at the Wycliff Avenue Main Toll Plaza or at Harry Hines Boulevard. 

These closures will allow TxDOT Bridge Division personnel to inspect the Tollway ramp bridges.*

Dallas Parkway Service Road to Open August 5

(August 3, 2007) The new, southbound Dallas Parkway service road from U.S. 380 to Eldorado Parkway is scheduled to open on Sunday, August 5th.  Crews will begin work at 8 a.m. on Sunday and the new lanes are expected to open early Sunday afternoon.  Motorists are advised to use caution in the area as they adjust to the new traffic patterns.  Motorists are also advised to take note of significant changes to the traffic signal operations at U.S. 380/Dallas Parkway and Eldorado Parkway/Dallas Parkway.


 

Green Home, Health & Safety Fair To Be Held Saturday, August 4; Event Moves to Frisco Commons Park

Two Arrested in Solicitation for Murder Plot

(July 31, 2007)   On Monday, July 30, 2007, Frisco Detectives began investigating an alleged murder for hire plot involving an estranged husband and wife and a contracted third party.


Lightning possible cause of house fire; no injuries reported

 (July 20, 2007)  Firefighters say lightning may be the cause of a single story house fire in the 8300 block of Nicholson Drive., which is in a subdivision just south of the intersection of Main Street and Teel.  Firefighters say a neighbor reported the fire at approximately 4:12 p.m.  Firefighters had the fire under control shortly after 5 p.m.  


 
City of Frisco Transitions from Drought Restrictions to Water Conservation Plan

(July 5, 2007) – The City of Frisco is transitioning from Modified Stage 3 Water Restrictions to The City of Frisco Water Conservation Plan, based on the recent actions of the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD).
The City of Frisco’s Water Conservation Plan is effective from June 1 through September 30 of each year.  While time-of-day restrictions still apply, water customers are encouraged to water no more than twice a week.


Dallas Parkway Lane Closure

(July 4, 2007) - Traffic will be delayed on the southbound Dallas Parkway between Stonebrook Parkway and Lebanon Road beginning Thursday, July 5, 2007, from 9 a.m. until approximately 7 p.m.  This closure will occur daily through Sunday, July 8, 2007.

Frisco Approves Modified Stage 3 Water Restrictions and ET Controller Rebate Program

(June 6, 2007) - The City of Frisco has modified its Stage 3 water restrictions to allow residents to water landscape twice a week. At the same time, Frisco is offering residents a one time, $100 rebate if they install an irrigation device, known as an ‘ET’ controller.
