Volunteer Firefighter 

Under general supervision of the Fire Officer, performs entry level fire suppression, emergency medical, rescue, hazardous materials, fire prevention and fire inspection services.  Candidates are not required to have their fire or EMS certifications to volunteer. Candidates will undergo a 72 hour training class that is mandated by the Texas State Fire Marshal Association prior to their shift assignment.  It is a requirement of the City of Frisco that you have either your High School Diploma or a GED. All candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screening and post offer physical exam.

Job Functions

·         Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls

·         Provides medical services and medical transportation when necessary

·         Inspects, tests, cleans, and maintains station facility, property, fire suppression and emergency medical apparatus and vehicles, as well as ensuring vehicles are in “ready” condition at all times

·         Responds to emergency fire calls for fire suppression and extinguishment

·         Participates in daily training exercises and instruction to increase performance

·         Conducts hydrant testing including the inspection of flow pressure and proper working condition

·         Conducts inspections of businesses to identify possible fire hazards and educate business owners in fire prevention

·         Maintain all activity and material usage logs

·         Conducts public relations activities including Citizens Fire Academy, birthday parties for kids, block parties, station tours, fire prevention seminars and patient care

·         Travels to conduct fire and life safety inspections, respond to calls for service, and to attend meetings, conferences and training

Schedule

The Volunteer Firefighter with the Frisco Fire Department will be assigned to a shift that works every 6th day.  If the scheduled shift falls between Monday-Friday the Volunteer Firefighter will work a 12 hour shift (6 p.m.- 6 a.m.). If the scheduled shift falls on a weekend or a holiday, the Volunteer Firefighter will work a 24 hour shift  (7 a.m. - 7 a.m.).  

Honorarium

Upon completion of the introductory probationary period, a Volunteer Firefighter will receive a $50 per month honorarium for service. The Volunteer Firefighter may receive an additional $50 per month for each approved, service-related certification up to a maximum of $190.00 per month.
