 Fire Testing

The hiring process generally consists of the following steps:

*  Application

*  Distribution of study guides and physical ability information

*  Written test

*  Physical ability

*  Two (2) oral interviews

*  Background investigation

*  Motor vehicle record check

*  Psychological evaluation

*  Polygraph examination

*  Drug screen

*  Physical exam

*  Chief interview

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements - Firefighter/EMT

*  High school diploma or GED certificate.

*  Certified or certifiable as a Firefighter by Texas Commission on Fire Protection.

*  Certified as an Emergency Medical Technician by Texas Department of Health.   Preference is shown for applicants certified at Paramedic level by Texas Department of Health.

*  Must pass a background check on previous employment and motor vehicle record check.

*  Must possess and maintain valid Texas Class B Exempt drivers license.

*  Must pass a physical examination, pre-employment drug screen, psychological evaluation and polygraph examination.

Minimum Requirements - Paramedic

*  High school diploma or GED certificate.

*  Must possess basic certification as a Paramedic by Texas Department of Health. All subscales on state test must be passed or applicant must meet medical control equivalency requirements for failed subscales prior to employment.

*  Must be current on all Texas Department of Health medical continuing education requirements.

*  Must pass a background check on previous employment and motor vehicle record check.

*  Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Class B Exempt drivers license.

*  Must pass a physical examination, pre-employment drug screen, psychological evaluation and polygraph examination.
